5 Fabulous Ideas for Summer Celebrations in Nashville (and Beyond)

By JP Events Staff

July 27, 2021

Summer 2021 is in full swing, and this year it feels especially worth celebrating! If you’re hoping to gather your family, friends or coworkers this season, don’t let a lack of inspiration stop you. Choosing a summertime theme helps add structure to the flow of your event and gives the planning process a built-in foundation.

Whether you’re thinking big about commemorating a special milestone or planning a gathering just because, we’re lining up five fun ideas for your upcoming summer celebrations!

  • Celebrate the Summer Olympics

The Olympics are the type of entertainment everyone can enjoy. Choose your favorite event and athletes and throw a viewing party for your friends and family to cheer on Team USA. Kick the party up a notch and get some friendly competition going between your guests. Challenge each other to a 50-meter sprint. Set up a table tennis tournament, or team up for a volleyball match. Then, throw in some Team USA-themed snacks, like these adorable Olympic Medal Cookies (you could get slice-and-bake sugar cookies and just decorate them!) or  Olympic Torch Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes, to elevate the patriotic vibe. Summer Olympic festivities are a simple way to bring your loved ones together and can seamlessly develop into an awesome tradition among family and friends.

  • Birthday Block Party

Are you a summer baby? Celebrate your birthday block party-style. Make it a potluck, grab your cornhole set, and blow up some water balloons for an afternoon cool down. Mix in your personal flair by giving a theme to the potluck — maybe it’s an all-day breakfast with pancakes, quiches and mimosas, or a Mexican fiesta with tacos, spicy margaritas, and chips and guac.

The best part about the block party theme is that it’s low-pressure and low-cost. It’s also kid-friendly while giving your adult guests the opportunity to take a load off and celebrate their friend. (Yup, that’s you!)

  • Picnic in the Park

Public parks are awesome spaces to gather friends. Many have picnic benches that can be doctored up with beautiful decor that will make your guests feel like they’re at a luxurious outdoor retreat.

Since these spaces are typically free to enter, you can repurpose the cash you’re saving on an event space and instead use it on delicious food. Consider having your picnic catered to make the day of execution stress-free. If you’re in the Nashville area, JP Events offers a satellite kitchen option, perfect for events in spaces that lack a traditional kitchen setup.

  • A Night at the Carnival

Nothing screams summer quite like a carnival. If you’re hosting a large event, a carnival can be a blast to recreate in a large space. Rent out a variety of festival-style games and activities that will have you guests feeling like kids again.

You can also work exclusively with local caters to create unique food and drink stations as a way to support local businesses. The carnival theme works best for corporate or community events and is unparalleled in bringing people together for a timeless summertime celebration.

  • Back-to-School Bash

Get your favorite families together for one last hurrah before school is back in session! This classic theme excites kids and adults alike. We love the idea of making school lunch-inspired appetizers with a twist, like this PB&J Sushi Roll or the adult-friendly back-to-school Appletini.

You can take it one step further and make the bash a charitable event by inviting your guests to bring school supplies and backpacks. Later, have the kids spend time stuffing each bag with supplies so you can donate to local schools or organizations in need. It’s simple, fun and a fantastic way to commemorate the summer while giving back to your community!

Bonus: Nashville Summer Events!

We get it – summer schedules can be packed and sometimes hosting your own event isn’t in the cards. Well, our Nashville locals are in luck because there are a couple of awesome events left to look forward to this season!

First up, soak up all of the food, music, and racing Nashville has to offer at the inaugural Music City Grand Prix. Gather your crew and grab your tickets this August 6th-8th, and get ready for a weekend that has something for everyone! Or, host a Grand Prix viewing party at your house and have some fun race car cookies or donuts that look like tires

Lastly, bask in the last few days of summer 2021 at Nashville’s Pride Parade. Mark your calendars for the annual Pride celebrations and entertainment September 18th-19th!

No matter what the reason, this is a season worth celebrating! We hope these themes inspire you to host an extra-special gathering this summer. As always, JP Events is here to serve your Nashville-area event and would be thrilled to help bring your summertime soirée to life.
